Focussing on self love and self care doesn’t have to mean spending hundreds of dollars on hairdressers and half a years wage on different face creams  just to feel like “you” again. Here we have a list of things you can do on a budget to fill that void and refresh yourself with a little self love.

1. Take a bath

A simple half hour spent relaxing in a bath with some candles, bath bomb or potpourri and maybe even a glass of wine might be just what you need. This option is especially nice for the busy Mums and Dads out there or if you’ve been on your feet all day at work.

2. Read a book or spend an hour each week doing something that helps you check out and relax

Try allocating a full hour each and every week to yourself. Doing something that helps you check out of reality for a while and helps your soul regenerate.

3. Go on a walk

As cliché as this sounds, light exercise can really do wonders for your mental health! This isn’t just walking on a treadmill for exercise, it’s actually getting out into the fresh air and connecting with nature. Sometimes all we need is to retreat back to the simple things in life and appreciate life without the chaos we tend to fill it with.

4. Get out of the house

This one is especially aimed at all of the stay at home parents out there, retirees and people who work from home. Being stuck in the house all day everyday can become relentless and draining. Going out to the grocery store or running the kids to school doesn’t count either. Go meet a friend at the local coffee shop or try doing something new.

5. Pamper yourself

Become the queen (or king) of DIY! Pull out that nail polish collection, go wash your hair, blow dry it and style it; even if you’re not going anywhere! Try a new makeup style, soak your feet in a tub of warm water, lather your tired skin with some moisturiser. Spend 15 mins doing some yoga at home. Prepare a yummy fruit and chocolate tray to take to the couch and watch your favourite show with. Whatever it is, just treat yourself!

There should be no excuses for not practicing self love, we’ve covered the no to low budget self care list, the rest is up to you! Just remember that your loved ones will be the real ones to benefit from your self love routine because when you feel relaxed and your soul is energised and happy then you’re a much better person to be around! The only question now is what time of the day to set aside for the most important person in your life, YOU!
